Capture - 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes

A picture captures a thousand words.

But what about the words you can't see?
What about the words that aren't there?

This picture shows me two friends coloring together. I see creativity. Friendship. I see a rainbow and endless possibilities. Two girls coloring with no words needed. And that's what gets me every time. The fact that my daughter has friends who don't need her to talk like they do. Friends who can laugh and chase one another. Friends who can be together; their actions speaking louder than words.

Wondering how Charlotte will connect with other kids keeps me up at night. Nothing cues my mama anxiety more than wondering what will happen when Charlotte's interacting with others and I can't be there to translate. Yet time and time again Charlotte and her friends are teaching me that my worries are for nothing (at least for right now). Charlotte jumps right into the action with other kids. Her laughter can't be missed. She plays, swings, runs, laughs, and colors. She's a preschooler loving life.

And she's doing it in the company of friends.

Every once in a while I need to snap a picture of Charlotte playing with others. I need to capture the moment. I need it not for Charlotte, but for me. I need to see the friends who are a part of this journey with us. I need to capture the moments of hope; the rainbows in our midst.

**All month I'll be participating in 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes. Each day I'll take some time (sometimes 5 minutes and sometimes a little more) to sit down and write. It's about the discipline of writing each day. It's about listening to the words from within. It's about letting creativity work in me. I'll share my writing at some point during the day on my blog. Thanks for reading.
